| Derrick Lim is one of Singapore's most well-known and respected photographers. For over 2 decades, Derrick has not stopped studying and innovating. With each picture he takes, he experiments with new techniques or simplifies old processes. Photography is Derrick's passion. He has won several awards for his fashion and commercial works, and has traveled extensively on assignment. A minimalist at heart, balancing various shadows and highlights while maintaining vibrant colors is one of Derrick's specialties. His style is visually clean, with subtle twists from manipulative lighting and clever digital imaging. Derrick has been regarded as one of the pioneers in digital imaging; with over a decade of expertise in digital inputs/outputs and digital image manipulations, he progressed into a state of the art, full color management digital workflow in 2001. He owes his photographic career to film and today, he has all but abandoned the pungent chemicals and dim red glow of the darkroom. Derrick immigrated to digital photography years after its introduction. When the digital format could surpass his standards in quality and integrity, Derrick decided to make his move. In another aspect, Derrick has been experimenting with fine art photography and he has held a solo exhibition/installation in 2006 entitled “SLEEP”. |
